We are pleased to announce the winner of our 2019 scholarship. Congratulations to Mr. Jonathan Kronheimer, oboist, of Newton South High School.
Mr. Kronheimer is a gap year student. He originally planned to go to film school, but instead decided to take a year off between high school and college in order to pursue music and prepare for Conservatory auditions.
For almost ten years, he studied with Jane Harrison, and over this past year, he has been studying with BSO oboist Mark McEwen. For eight years, he has been a member of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, and with them he’s played works by Debussy, Ravel, Mozart, and Puccini (among others) in such respected venues as Symphony Hall and Sanders Theatre.
He was recently accepted into the National Youth Orchestra, and his top two college choices: the New England Conservatory and the Oberlin Conservatory. In his free time, he enjoys creative writing and he maintains a small collection of vintage fountain pens.
Jonathan Kronheimer will perform with the HGC at the 2019 Spring Concert on Sunday, April 28 at the Second Church in Newton. Bravo, Jonathan, and thank you to everyone who applied for this year’s scholarship!
