The Highland Glee Club (HGC) will begin its 111th Season Spring Semester with a rehearsal at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 21, at the First Baptist Church, 858 Great Plain Avenue, at Warren Street in Needham. The first three rehearsals are open to all interested male singers, with or without formal training.
“We have been growing slowly but steadily for the last few years.” says Ron Jantzen, president of the HGC. “It is both exciting and a pleasure to be able to sing with such a great group of men. We invite others to give it try if they like to sing. I’m sure that they will feel the same way.”
Open rehearsals will be held on January 21, 28 and February 4. The only membership requirements are a love of singing, the ability to hold a tune and attend weekly Monday rehearsals. Singers will begin preparing for the spring concert scheduled for Sunday, April 28 at the War Memorial Auditorium, Newton City Hall, 1000 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton.
About the Highland Glee Club
Now beginning its 111th season, the Highland Glee Club is an all-male chorus with 27 members from the greater Boston area. Our singers come from Boston to Hopkinton and Waltham to Norton and in between.
The group is directed by David Tiedman, the music director of Pilgrim Church (UCC) in Sherborn, Mass., and is accompanied by Maxim Lubarsky, a jazz pianist with classical training.
The HGC has been long been committed to serving the community. Each year, a music scholarship, now $2500, is awarded to an outstanding high school senior who is pursuing a music education in college, with auditions held Saturday, March 18. The winner will perform at the club’s annual spring concert, scheduled for April 23, 2017 at the War Memorial Auditorium, Newton City Hall. See http://www.highlandgleeclub.com for details.
