The Highland Glee Club (HGC) will begin its 108th Season Fall Semester with a rehearsal at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 12, at the First Baptist Church, 858 Great Plain Avenue, at Warren Street in Needham. The first three rehearsals are open to all interested male singers, with or without formal training.
“We’ve continued to attract new voices during the last year, and we anticipate another great session of open rehearsals shortly,” says Ron Jantzen, president of the HGC. “There’s never been a better time to join the HGC.”
Open rehearsals will be held on September 12, 19 and 26. The only membership requirements are a love of singing, the ability to hold a tune and attend weekly Monday rehearsals. Singers will begin preparing for the winter concert scheduled for December 4 at the First Baptist Church, Needham. The HGC will be performing works by W. A. Mozart, J.S. Bach, Saint-Saens and Buxtehude, and a variety of seasonal carols and will ask the audience to join in a sing-a-long.
About the Highland Glee Club
Now in its 108th season, the Highland Glee Club is an all-male chorus with 25 members from the greater Boston area. The group is directed by David Tiedman, the music director of Pilgrim Church (UCC) in Sherborn, Mass., and is accompanied by Maxim Lubarsky, a jazz pianist with classical training.
The HGC has been long been committed to serving the community. Each year, a music scholarship, now $2500, is awarded to an outstanding high school senior who is pursuing a music education in college, with auditions held in March. The winner will perform at the club’s annual spring concert, scheduled for April 23, 2017 at the War Memorial Auditorium, Newton City Hall.
