The Highland Glee Club invites all men interested in singing to their open rehearsals for the 108th season on Jan. 11, 18 and 25. The only membership requirements are a love of singing, the ability to hold a tune and attend weekly Monday rehearsals.
Rehearsals are held at 7:15 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Needham, on the corner of Great Plain Avenue and Warren Street (858 Great Plain Ave.). Come in through the Warren Avenue side door and head upstairs to find us.
In the last year, our group has grown by 25%, and we’d love to see the group continue to grow! There are lots of reasons to be excited about the Highland Glee Club, as we’re planning an optional trip to Poland, we’re gearing up for our second annual Singing Valentines program, and we are beginning to prepare for our spring concert at the War Memorial Auditorium in Newton.
The trip to Poland (June 8-15) will include several sightseeing opportunities, with guided tours of Auschwitz, Wawel Castle, Wieliczka Salt Mine, and Częstochowa, home of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa. The group will have the opportunity to perform at some of Krakow’s most famous churches and will participate in the Krakow International Choral Festival.
But before members of the group travel to Poland, they will be preparing for their spring concert scheduled for April 24 at the War Memorial Auditorium at Newton City Hall. The HGC will be performing pieces by Gustav Holst and Aaron Copland and will be joined by the Brandeis University Chamber Choir. The concert will also feature a performance by the winner of the Highland Glee Club’s music scholarship, to be determined after auditions this spring.
